Bernard was a credit to the village. The amount of effort and time he put in to improving village life was immense. I worked with him on a number of projects and we worked well together and Pool is a better place as a result of his commitment. He will be sadly missed.

I have happy memories of Bernard, and Brenda too of course, extending over more than 60 years. Klaus and I visited them and they came to Hamburg to see us. Latterly we mostly met in Sunderland, and we enjoyed their company greatly. He will be sadly missed.
